NBA draft night is approaching and we decided to write about a European project, Timothe Luwawu. Luwawu is projected to be a late lottery pick in the upcoming draft. Lets see what he brings on the table.
Name: Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot
Born: 1995
Position: SG/SF
Height: 6'7
*Season stats: MPG:31.1, PPG:14.6, RPG:4.8, APG:2.8, TO:2.9
Team: Mega Leks
Who is Timothe Luwawu? In simple words another French player who is expected to make an impact in NBA. Luwawu started his professional career in France and last year moved to Serbia to play for Mega Leks (previously known as Mega Vizura). Luwawu had a terrific season and his stock skyrocked. Definitely the move to Serbia and Mega Leks helped him a lot.
Mega Leks is one of the most unique teams in Europe, one of the youngest professional men team in Europe. Most of the players are born after 1993 and more or less are considered as hot European prospects, Zubac and Zagorac are another 2 for who may speak in the near future, especially Zubac (projected as 1st rnd pick).
If we go back in the 2014 NBA draft we will see that 3 players from Mega Leks (Vizura back then) were drafted, Jokic (#41), Micic (#52), Dangubic (#54), as you understand Mega Leks is a professional version of a successful American college.

Athleticism, very good athlete, Luwawu has an excellent size, stands at 6'7 with a wingspan of 6'11. Additional to that his first step is very explosive and we should see many "sick" dunks from him in the future, a high flyer player. His only disadvantage is his frame, Luwawu needs to become bigger and stronger.
Offensively, Luwawu excels on open court, you enjoy watching him, almost unstoppable, same applies to when he is able to find an open lane to the rim. Very good finisher above the rim and near the rim. Even though Luwawu shot with 37.2% from behind the arc his shooting technique needs work and improvement.
Generally he likes to have the ball on his hands, but Luwawu struggles to create his own shot and more specific shoot with high percentage from mid range and behind the arc.
Another aspect of his game that needs work is his playmaking abilities, Luwawu has a negative ratio of assist/turnover(2.8/2.9). We have to mention that Luwawu is pretty good on P&R situations.
Defensively, Luwawu is a very good defender, his size is excellent and helps him defend multiple position. Luwawu has very good legs and very active hands. Something I do not like is that Luwawu takes more risks in D than he should. In NBA level this would be lethal for his team. Even though he is already a good defender, his potential is a lot higher, especially when Luwawu improves his defensive position, there are many small things he can improve and become a better defender in short amount of time.
Overall, Timothe Luwawu is a very good athlete who gives everything he has on the floor, a high energy player. Luwawu needs to improve, firstly his shooting technique and overall his offensive game, but he should understand that his playing time will come from defense. Luwawu should be able to make an impact in his rookie season as a 3&D guy and this is were he should focus. As long as the ball will not be in his hands, his shooting percentages should be good. Few teams that I would like to see him are Chicago, Milwaukee or Denver.
